2012 Ogden Camera Club Annual Print Show

The annual print show is an opportunity for you to show off your best work at the Ogden Art Gallery. Last year we had 76 prints representing 21 photographers. This year we want to break the record and fill the entire gallery with beautiful photos! The Ogden Camera Club will be the featured group during the First Friday Art Stroll on April 6, 2012. Photos will be on display during the month of April.

Where: Ogden Art Gallery (2484 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah)
When: Prints accepted Saturday, March 31, 2012, 10 AM – 4 PM
Categories: Open, Wildlife, Scenic, People.
If you wish to sell your framed image, please have a price prepared in advance.
Prints must be framed (1" max width), wire hangers, no alligator clips.
Mattes (if used) must be white.
Minimum print size of 8x10. No maximum print size.
4 entries per person with a maximum of 2 images per category.
Judging will take place on Wednesday, April 4, 2012.
Awards: Best of Show, People’s Choice, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention per category.
All prints will be on display for the First Friday Art Stroll - Friday, April 6, 2012, 5 PM – 9 PM

Updated - Monthly Photo Competition

Digital files should be a .jpg properly sized for viewing on the clubs projector. Native resolution is 1280x720 pixels. Horizontal images should be sized to a width of 1280 pixels and vertical images sized to a height of 720 pixels maintaining aspect ratio to prevent distortion. File names should contain your name, competition subject, and title (i.e. Shaun Nelson – Self Portrait – Tripod.jpg).

Photos should be emailed no later than the 25th of each month for the following month’s competition. Please email your image to ogdencameraclub@gmail.com. You will receive an auto-response when your email has been received. Keep in mind that if you send more than one email in a twenty-four period, you will only receive one email response.

You must be a current member of the Ogden Camera Club to participate in monthly competitions. If you are a new member submitting photos for the first time, or you are currently a member of the B Group, you are allowed to submit two images for a single competition subject. For example, if the monthly competition subjects are Nighttime and The Color Red, you may submit two photos for either subject or one photo for both. If you are a member of the A Group, you are required to submit one photo for each subject. The same image may be not entered for more than one subject in a single month. For example, you may not enter the same photo in a single month for an Open and another subject.

Digitally manipulated images are eligible for competition. All photo entries and digital manipulation must be the original work of the photographer. Photo entries cannot have digital boarders, digital frames, digital textures or text added. Images that display any form of nudity or sexual content will be disqualified.

Ogden Camera Club November Field Trip

What: Hill Aerospace Museum

Where: 7961 Wardleigh Rd - Building 1955 Hill AFB

When: Saturday, November 19th @ 9:00 AM.

Cost: Free (please feel free to make a donation)

This will be a good opportunity to get both wide shots of aircraft and close-up shots of detail.

Come and spend as much time as you like with the group.

We can swap lenses, share tips, and enjoy the cool aircraft displays.

Make sure to dress warm if you plan to photograph the aircraft outside. The weather forecast shows a high of 38 degrees and a chance of snow. That could create some interesting shots.

David Terry - Special Guest Speaker - November 2011 Meeting

The Ogden Camera Club is proud to present one of Utah's top wedding and portrait photographers, David Terry, at our next meeting on November 10th.

As a 12 year old with a newspaper route, and more money than he could spend, David decided to purchase his first camera. Both he and his father purchased cameras at the same time, setting the hook for a lifetime of photography. David and his father continued to purchase camera gear and spent a lot of time in the dark room creating black and white and color pictures.

David became a software engineer and his photography was put aside for a time. However, he never lost interest. In 2000 he shot his first wedding at the request of friends. By 2004 he was convinced that wedding photography was something he truly loved. David then made the transition from film to digital, and setup a small home studio. Today, he shoots about 25 weddings a year. Still working full-time as a software engineer, David decided a long time ago that he equally loved both professions and chose to sacrifice sleep.

As a mentor and a professional photographer, David has a love for photography. He loves to teach and surround himself with others that share his passion for photography.

David will be teaching us about flash and off camera lighting techniques. You won't want to miss this meeting! Visitors are always welcome. November 10, 2011 - 7:00 PM - Bonneville High School - Ogden.

Rachael Collins from the Granny Starr Foundation will be giving a presentation on some volunteer photo opportunities. We will be voting for the 2011-2012 President, Vice President and Treasurer. And you can submit your suggestions for the 2011-2012 photo competition subjects. Visitors are always welcome! See you this Thursday.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 2011 Ogden Camera Club Print Show. We had 76 prints, representing the work of 21 individual photographers. The photos will be on display for the entire month of March at the Ogden Art Gallery located at 2484 Washington Blvd in downtown Ogden, Utah.

Annual Print Show

Ogden Camera Club Members, you have exactly 5 days have your prints ready to go for the Annual Print Show.

Categories are: “People”, “Nature”, “Black and White”, and “Open.”

Rules:

Prints must be no smaller than 8x10
Photos must be framed
The frame needs to be no more than 1" wide
If you use a matte it must be white
Frame must be hung with a wire, no alligator clips.

Framed photos are due this Saturday, February 26th, at the Ogden Arts Center located at 2484 Washington Blvd, noon until 3 PM. Please label the back of your image.

On Saturday, January 22nd, the Ogden Camera Club will make a trip to The Living Planet Aquarium in Sandy. The management at the aquarium is going to open the doors one hour early for the Ogden Camera Club! We will have the entire place to ourselves before they open to the public. As a club, we will consolidate all of our images and give them to the aquarium so they can
use them for marketing and promotional purposes. We will receive a group rate if we have 20 or more people. Cost will be $7 for adults and $5 for kids. I was told that all of the displays will be open; however the aquarium adjusts the lights for the penguins to match the winter solstice. The lights at the penguin display will turn on at 10:30 AM.

Breaking News: Zombies arrive in downtown Ogden!

The Ogden Camera Club will present Issac Goeckeritz as a guest speaker in our meeting on August 12th at 7:00 PM. Issac is an award winning documentary filmmaker. His films Uintah United, Ogden: Junction City of the West, and Street Vets have aired on PBS Television. While much of his work is done with a video camera, Issac has a strong background and love for photography.

Ogden Camera Club July Fieldtrip

Tracy Aviary Field Trip

When: July 31, 2010

Where: Meet @ Riverdale Park-N-Ride Lot

Time: 8:00 AM

We will be meeting at the Riverdale Park-N-Ride located at 1700 W 5234 S. A map to the park-n-ride lot can be found here.

From there we will be carpooling down to Tracy Aviary. The aviary opens at 9:00 AM and the cost is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for kids and $4.00 for seniors.
